Jerky has always been expensive, but we all(or most of us all) love it…. Back in the early 90’s, dad gave me a recipe…. Said”try this” , so I did…..
I did it at home for a few years, took it to my factory job, folks went nuts….. “you should do this for a living…..”
That’s where it all went crazy…. Round one of USDA….. got inspected and in stores…. Was rolling like thunder ….. 08 crash came…. All my little mom and pop little country stores…. Went out of business…. I kept going…. In the winter of 2010, I went to a monster food distributor… the main guy in charge of all the salesman, said “man that’s good stuff…. I have 30 sales representatives that will be in here for the weekly meeting, in the morning…. I’ll let them sample it and we can go from there….
I, left… excited, like a kid, knowing tomorrow was my birthday and cake was to be had…..
Somewhere around 11 am the next day, the phone rang, he said, “man, these guys went crazy about this stuff….saying yes they knew they could get it in 1200 stores…”
We chatted for a few minutes (as I held my excitement) then he said we’d be in touch…..
The next night on the evening news…. The president’s of the company was found embezzling funds and the company has filed for bankruptcy….. jeez laweez….. that absolutely took the wind outta my sail, so much so, I stopped producing, and went back to construction…..
Fast forward 10 years…. I ain’t going as I once was, and I’ve made a few dollars…..
Round 2 USDA….. good golly joe Friday…. What a fight…..but here we are, rolling, running, chasing, and loving life……not only do we do jerky….. we do bbq sauce, salsa, have 24 flavors of seasonings, a fudge, and are working on a toffee, a new pizza sauce.
Cooking is life, and passion….. new things pop up often, so there’s never a dull moment round here…..
